EyeforceofNature

As soon as I went out on my own, this sweet family from North Dakota knocked on my door to see if it was possible to help them design their dream home. And to be clear, it’s not a typical dream home. It was a long process for them to acquire this land, to get the correct permitting to build on it and then it was the right architect to bring their literal vision to life. With any custom home we try to make them personal, but with this particular client it was easy to put what they were passionate about into the design.

Because of their occupation in ophthalmology and occupational therapy we leaned into the eyeball theme but also their love for the outdoors and fascination with the BadLands. We have a lot of natural elements here – from preserving a tree on their lot and drilling it into the slab at the base of their stairs, from sourcing European energy efficient windows, rain collection to radiant heating and use of natural stones and materials. We added nods of their personality by using their favorite color green throughout (check out their custom Wolf range), their love of threes with triangle cut outs in cabinetry and three hanging woven pendants in the dining area and installing their coat hooks in braille that reads “home.” Every inch of this place was thoroughly thought out and perfect for this beautiful family of four and their two big dogs.
